Restoring strength and beauty with custom crowns and bridges
Crown and bridge is an area of dentistry that allows us to fix teeth that are probably beyond filling. So most of the time these teeth have had fillings a couple of different times and the tooth ends up breaking around an existing filling and then we’ve got to go in and figure out okay what are we going to do to fix that to where you’ve got something that functions and to where you don’t have to worry about it breaking on you again in the future. And so what a crown does is allows us to go in and take a tooth that’s broken down, basically trim it down around from the top down and put a crown over the top of it looks exactly like or close to the tooth that you had before.
Crowns allows us just basically to restore a tooth that does beyond the filling at this point. So we do that. Oftentimes maybe you lost a tooth you know and so you need to replace that and you hear crown and bridge and most people don’t really understand what a bridge is and so basically it’s just most of the time three crowns that are fused together and that tooth in the middle there’s missing.
So if you’ve got a tooth that’s missing down here we could use the tooth on either side of it to go in and basically what you’re doing is is crowning those two teeth but what’s what ends up happening is what goes in and cements over that is three crowns fused together and so that allows you to go in and replace that missing tooth with something permanent that doesn’t come in and out. A couple benefits to that number one it allows you to function in that space because you couldn’t really chew against anything before so it puts tooth back there and allows you that to function there to be able to chew and it also keeps that the tooth in the back from tilting forward over time since there’s a tooth missing there. So basically crown and bridge allows us to go in and either replace missing teeth or restore teeth that are broken down.
